Failoa Famili at a Glance

Failoa Famili is a registered charitable trust.  We are mums, passionate about helping to make a positive difference for families in the community.  In particular for young people, women and girls who are our future workers, mums and dads.

We believe a holistic approach is necessary in addressing the 'skills and information' gap prevalent within the Pasifika communities.

Failoa in Samoa is 'just do it'.  Famili in Tongan is 'family'.

"O le ala i le pule o le tautua"

Is a famous Samoan proverb meaning the path to leadership is through serving others

Failoa Famili provides ‘hope’ and ‘motivation’ to be better self-sufficient people, have better families and become better communities by providing quality training, advice and information to families and communities

Mission Statement

To be known as providers of consistent, quality, timely, and accessible services and leadership in the areas of families and communities, education, health and community enterprise

Our Vision

Meet our team

Relationships, alofa, respect, reciprocity, faith in God, working hard to serve our families and communities are Pasifika values instilled in me by my parents who migrated to New Zealand in the early 60’s to follow their dreams of a better life.  We learned resilience when the going got tough and found strength and comfort from the richness of our family, church and culture.  Despite the huge social and economic disparity Pasifika families face we must use our mental mode to change the narrative from culture of victimhood to one of self-belief.

What we provide

Life Skills Workshops

Our series of life skills workshops for parents and young people offers a range of practical and much needed topics such as financial well being, employment skills, workplace health and safety and nutrition. The outcome will be parents and young people with the tools and confidence to live healthy, successful and happy lives

Pacific Women in Tech

In partnership with Mission Ready HQ, we encourage Pasifika to take up scholarships offering a fast track opportunity into the IT industry.  Courses are from 3-6 months with online learning and practical training to up-skill in real workplaces with real clients and projects.  Over 80% of graduates secure contracts with salaries starting from $50k.  Consider a career in technology post Covid-19.  For more information please get in touch otherwise if you are ready to apply click on link.

Talanoa Panel

Inviting guest speakers to share their stories and journeys about issues that matter for Pasifika families and communities

These are difficult times for our Pasifika communities. Many families have lost jobs and income and may be struggling to access help.  Our role is to co-ordinate a collaborative effort between funding partners, suppliers, community leaders, cohorts and volunteers to deliver customized food packs for families.  We provide information on where to get help and referrals for government support.  Our free life skills workshops offer's practical tools on managing finances, employment strategies, workplace safety and nutrition

Kakai Talavou

Kakai Talavou means beautiful people in Tongan. The purpose of Kakai Talavou is to engage young Pasifika to participate in programmes that promote their health and wellbeing, values and cultural identity. The future of Pacific languages is fragile. The Language Ambassadors role is to promote, share and celebrate Pacific languages through video and online interviews. This role will help Pacific youth to develop and build life skills through language, leadership, communication, collaboration, technical, cultural competency and confidence skills

Reading Together

A research-based programme aiming to help parents and whānau to be active participants in their children’s reading at home more effectively.  Reading Together is based on a short series of workshops offering training in simple strategies to make reading time fun rather than a time of anxiety, stress and, sometimes, anger.  Please contact us for more information about our parents groups in Auckland and Hutt Valley starting in August 2020

My family and some of our friends were truly blessed yesterday to receive so much food from Failoa Famili. We recieved so much that we shared it with another family. We're all so overwhelmed with the help this will provide us for weeks to come. God bless this organization and all the hard work that goes on in the background. I really loved the reactions of everyone that we helped yesterday. I bet those would be the kind of reaction that you guys get on a day to day basis.
